Opening with the familiar tune of ‘You got a friend in me’, the film takes you back to Andy’s big move and Bo Peep’s separation from the rest of the crew and shows us the present scene. I’ll have to admit, Toy Story 4 is visually stunning and you see it right from the flashback that leads up to the main plot of the film. But Toy Story 4 makes quite an earnest attempt at explaining itself. Naturally, the informed viewer is left wondering if we need more of already existing hit series and films. It is important to remember that this is the year of wondering if we need more sequels (or prequels), it’s the year of X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Riverdale Season 4 and another Godzilla movie. The first two parts were released to a very eager audience while the third part’s reception was watered with some scepticism but, it was grand nonetheless. The Josh Cooley directorial is written by Stephany Folsom and Andrew Stanton with Rashida Jones and Will McCormack joining in for the screenplay. Toy Story 4 is Pixar and Walt Disney Studios’ next and final installation of the hit film series that’s been around for more than two decades. That’s probably why we keep going back to the film series. When Toy Story came out in 1995, children all over the world were introduced to that warm fuzzy place and with the passage of time, learnt to acquaint Woody and Buzz Lightyear and the rest of Andy’s toys with that same cosy feeling. But one franchise that we didn’t outgrow yet, is Toy Story. It is also a springboard for coming of age stories waiting to unfold. In the world of Pixar films, home is a warm place filled with friends who stick by each other for eternity.
